More information has been released on a recent “drug raid” on Manitowoc’s southside. Lieutenant Dave Remiker of the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit told Seehafer News last night, the SWAT team was used to conduct a search warrant, related to a Fentanyl distribution investigation.
Manitowoc Police Chief, Nick Reimer, said last week, that the Sheriff’s office had jurisdictional prudence on that call. “They had a planned search warrant executed there for drugs and weapons and both were discovered there. So, that’s why the SWAT team was involved. When we have intelligence going into a search warrant, we will bring the SWAT team when the criteria is met. We don’t bring the SWAT team all the time, but when we have known weapon issues that’s when we do it. The city police department assisted the sheriff’s office in that warrant search.”
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the mid-morning call on November 14th, causing obvious concern for citizens living in that area. Some were asking if legal protocol was being broken with the heavy presence of equipment and personnel in that residential area. Reimer said, “Technically no, it didn’t because we’re preventing it from happening. We’re taking a proactive approach of watching our safety and bringing all the people and equipment if it’s needed. Thankfully, it wasn’t in this case”.
Lieutenant Remiker said two persons were arrested during that call and face felony drug-related charges stemming from the distribution of Fentanyl.
