A longtime former Superintendent of Schools in Manitowoc has passed away. Word was received over the weekend that Vernon Childs died November 11th in Lexington, Kentucky where he had been residing. He was 94.
Childs, a native of Hebron, Indiana, began his administrative career as an assistant superintendent in Manitowoc in 1963, before being named superintendent of schools in 1972. He retired from the MPSD in 1990 and was described as being a generous supporter of many nonprofit and service organizations. Memorial plans will be announced at a later date and a private burial is set to take place in Branch Evergreen Cemetery.
His family asks that in his memory, you consider contributing to a favorite charity of your choice.
