With more than 120,000 Wisconsinites living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, there are many families that will have to navigate the holidays with their loved ones in mind.
The Alzheimer’s Association has issued several tips for those who will be celebrating with someone suffering from these diseases.
First, they suggest you keep the person with dementia involved in food prep, gift wrapping, and other tasks.
You can also select activities that everyone can do.
Make sure they are shown photos of who will be visiting and prepare them for the event.
Be sure the family addresses the person with dementia by name and identifies themselves by name as well.
Short simple phrases will make conversing much more simple.
The more information the family has before arriving, the smoother the day will go, and everyone is likely to have even more fun.
