Suicide remains a major problem in the veteran community.
Each day, an average of 17.6 veterans die by suicide, and hundreds gathered over the weekend to help raise awareness. 4th H.O.O.A.H., or Helping Out Our American Heroes, held a walk/jog event Saturday morning, and over 800 people attended.
Participants were able to choose between a 17.6-mile, or 1.76-mile course, of course representing the number of veterans who succumb to suicide each day.
A local woman participated in the 17.6-mile course.
Shanen Daly was carrying her son Morgan with her, as he died by suicide back in 2016.
Shanen told us she and her walking partner finished the course in a little over 5 hours.
She created a non-profit called Morgan’s Gainz, which raised a total of $1,790 to go toward helping end veteran suicide.
