At the Two Rivers City Council meeting Monday night, representatives from the extended Schmitt family presented a check for more than $122,000 for the new Schmitt Brothers Stage.
It will be an integral part of Central Park West 365, a $1.6 million project to upgrade the city’s most significant public space and create a year-round focal point in the heart of downtown.
The Schmitt Brothers Stage will honor the famous champion quartet that won the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America title in 1951.
As far as the overall fundraising efforts, City Manager Greg Buckley says they are getting very close.
“Fundraising now sits at $746,000 toward a goal of $800,000,” he explained. “We are at about 93% of our goal.”
The community is invited to attend the official dedication of the Schmitt Brothers Stage on July 15, 2023.
The event will include a barbershop show featuring some of the best barbershop quartets and choruses in the United States.
