Taxpayers in the Two Rivers Public School District will be asked next Tuesday to support a $38.7 million dollar referendum.
Superintendent of Schools Diane Johnson tells Seehafer News that a 2021 district facility study by Bray Architects and CG Schmidt determined the greatest need was at L.B. Clarke Middle School.
“We would be adding two additions,” she explained. “We would add a 5th-grade wing, we would be putting in a new gymnasium, and in place of the old gymnasium, we would have the ability to expand our lunchrooms. Right now we have kids eating at 10:45 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon because we are unable to have enough room in the cafeteria for students to be there.”
Other renovations or upgrades call for improving building security to main entrances at Two Rivers High School, L.B. Clarke, and Koenig and Magee Elementary Schools, major building system upgrades including HVAC, electrical and plumbing, replacement of parking lots and sidewalks at each school and updates to playground areas at elementary and middle schools.
If approved by voters in the November 8th election, it would cost taxpayers in the district an additional $49.00 a year based on ownership of a $100,000 home.
