Halloween time is officially here, and many families are preparing to hit the streets and collect candy.
But before you don your costume and apply your face paint, the Manitowoc Police Department has some safety tips for trick-or-treaters.
They suggest you never leave your child unattended, and never enter someone’s home.
Also, police and homeowners alike ask that you not take shortcuts through yards.
As you make your way down the street, make sure you are using the sidewalk and only approach homes with a light on outside.
That is the signal that they are ready and waiting to see your costume and hand out candy.
As always, look both ways before crossing the street, and walk, not run between houses. Parents or guardians are encouraged to accompany children while out and about and to inspect candy before it is consumed.
And finally, for those who will be driving during trick-or-treating times, you are encouraged to use extra caution as there will be increased foot traffic.
