The man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on De Pere’s East River Trail has been found guilty due to a no-contest plea.
Miles Cruz, who was 17 at the time of the attack, entered the plea on charges of 1st Degree Sexual Assault Causing Great Bodily Harm, Kidnapping, Strangulation/Suffocation, and 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
As a part of the plea deal, Cruz avoided being prosecuted for Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.
The incident occurred on October 5th, when a woman was walking on the trail with her 4-week-old baby.
Cruz grabbed the woman, dragged her off the trail, and sexually assaulted her while leaving the baby lying in the tall grass.
The woman told police she faked being dead to get Cruz to stop choking her during the attack.
Cruz, who is now 18 years old, is due back in court on January 6th for his sentencing.
