A surfer had to be rescued on Lake Michigan in Sheboygan after venturing out too far early last evening.
The Sheboygan County Communications Center received a call about a person in distress while surfing with friends shortly after 6:00 p.m.
The United States Coast Guard along with Sheboygan fire and police personnel were dispatched to the scene at Deland Park.
Rescuers boarded the coast guard boat and traveled out to about 200 yards north of the lighthouse to pull the surfer to safety.
The person, who was not identified, was transported back to the boat landing where he was evaluated by fire personnel.
Authorities say he did not require transport to the hospital.
Water conditions were not favorable to be surfing as Gale Warnings for Sheboygan County called for winds of 15 to 35 knots creating waves of 15 to 20 feet.
Officials emphasize that anytime you are near or in the water, a life vest should be worn at all times.
Personnel from 7 units of the fire department responded as well as coast guardsmen and police officers.
The Sheboygan County Dive team was notified but thankfully was not needed.
