An early morning fire in Appleton Monday caused significant damage to a home on E Wentworth Lane.
Fire crews were called to the residence on the north side of the city at around 1:00 a.m. to find flames climbing the back side of the home.
They were able to quickly extinguish those flames but learned that the fire had spread to the attic.
Crews had to pull down a portion of the ceiling in order to take down those flames.
All residents of the home were able to escape without injury, but it did cause an estimated $150,000 in damage.
The fire is still under investigation, but it is believed that an outdoor grill was accidentally left on, causing the exterior of the home to start on fire.
The Appleton Fire Department warns that cooking incidents are the leading cause of house fires.
With this week being Fire Prevention Week, they suggest everyone be extra careful when cooking indoors and outdoors.
