Hundreds converged in downtown Manitowoc Saturday afternoon to participate in the 2022 Curd Crawl put on by the United Way of Manitowoc County.
Participants traveled between seven local restaurants to try their take on the Wisconsin snack before voting on their favorite.
We caught up with Ashly Bender from the United Way who could not have been happier with the turnout.
“I would say we probably doubled, maybe even tripled, the number of participants this year,” she revealed, calling the turnout “Amazing.”
Among those in attendance was a group that included two men from Los Angeles.
Seehafer News ran into the group at The Wharf.
Rene Siikarla told us that her brother, who is actually from Manitowoc, returned home from LA for a family event, and they all decided to enjoy the curds.
We asked if cheese curds were a snack they enjoy in California, to which they said, “You can buy the cheese curds in the store in a pack, but they don’t have deep-fried cheese curds.”
Rene said this was an event they were more than willing to support.
“For my husband and I, it is an important thing to support, because it helps so many different organizations in the community,” Rene said. “We are happy to be here supporting the United Way.”
We have not yet heard word on who was named the Curd King of the Clipper City.
