October is Crime Prevention Month and Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LeBre had some suggestions when it comes to protecting yourself from becoming a victim.
During an appearance on WOMT’s Be My Guest program this week, Le Bre told host Lee Douglas, the simplest step to take is to “Lock your cars if you have bags or items inside or even just change. Otherwise, people are going to go through them.”
She also suggested during the winter months, “When you’re warming up your car in the winter and don’t have a remote starter, don’t leave your keys behind because (thieves) can steal (the vehicle).”
The local district attorney speaks from personal experience when suggesting residents be careful online.
“Identity theft is a huge thing,” she said. “I can tell you I’ve been a victim of identity theft and it’s hard to get it off your credit report and everything else.”
LeBre said local law enforcement agencies will sponsor crime prevention activities during the course of this month.
She added, “Just be smart during the upcoming holiday season and throughout the year.”
