The scammers are back at it, this time impersonating an elected official.
The Mayor of Appleton, Jake Woodford has announced that he has been made aware of a scam where people are receiving text messages from someone claiming to be him.
The text asks the individual to partake in a survey to help their community, but Mayor Woodford has stated that the city is not currently conducting any surveys. Even if they were, he said the city would not conduct them in that way.
It is believed that the scammer wants you to click on the link in the message and give them your personal information, which is known as a phishing scam.
If you receive such a text, you are encouraged to ignore it, and block the number.
Authorities are currently working on finding out who is responsible for sending these messages.
