The head of the local Drug Unit says a several months-long investigation has uncovered a large-scale drug distribution source in rural northern Manitowoc County.
Lieutenant Dave Remiker tells Seehafer News that a male in his 20s was arrested recently in a raid that saw authorities recover $8,000 in proceeds from local Methamphetamine and Fentanyl sales.
Lieutenant Remiker explained that his investigators have been trying to identify mid to upper-level drug trafficking groups, instead of smaller controlled buys and users.
He said that “based on our personnel and the resources that I have, we really have to focus our attention on going after the larger distribution networks.”
That tactic has been really successful according to Remiker.
“It’s brought us here locally identifying people,” he explained. “A lot of times those source locations are out of town, Milwaukee for instance. We’ve been getting a lot of really good assistance from law enforcement in the Milwaukee area to help us with our cases. DEA has been significant in aiding our local cases. I have a DEA task force officer in my office, so that has a lot of benefit.”
The metro drug leader said it takes a long time to investigate these cases and “basically, it’s an adult game of hide n’ seek consisting of surveillance, interview and finally a search warrant.”
Remiker went on to say, “Once we arrested the individual we heard he was the source for meth and fentanyl locally, so I’m proud of the guys for working that case really hard.”
Lieutenant Remiker says the investigation is continuing but the case of the man already in custody will be referred to the U.S Attorney’s Office where he is facing a minimum of 5-to-10 years in prison upon conviction.
