Many of us have heard the statistic surrounding veteran suicides, that being that 22 veterans take their own life each day.
But what about police officers?
Many of them see just as traumatizing scenes and are required to do things that stick with them for years.
According to First H.E.L.P, an organization focused on first responder mental health, there were over 200 law enforcement suicides across the nation in 2019, while this year, 104 police officers or sheriff’s deputies have died by suicide.
To help their officers, the Green Bay Police Department has launched a comprehensive wellness program that not only focuses on their physical wellness, but also their spiritual, financial, and occupational wellness.
This coupled with the newly created short-form phone number for the National Crisis Lifeline, 988, it seems as though the tide is turning on erasing the stigma of mental health issues in the U.S.
