Gas prices in Eastern Wisconsin not only rose over the last week, but they also made the third roughly 50-cent jump since March.
According to the AAA Gas Prices website, Manitowoc County’s average price per gallon of fuel rose 52 cents over the past 7 days, now sitting at $3.93, while Sheboygan County’s average jumped 49 cents to $3.88.
The largest increase came in Calumet County, where their average ballooned by 59 cents to $3.95.
Outagamie County reported a 54-cent leap to $3.90, while Brown County motorists are paying 53 cents more per gallon, now averaging $3.94 per gallon.
Kewaunee County meanwhile saw an increase of 40 cents to $3.84 and Door County “only” saw a 30-cent spike to $3.74, giving it the rare distinction of having the cheapest fuel in the area.
The state average also swelled 42 cents, now at an average of $3.87, while the national average only rose comparatively slightly, up 7 cents to $3.74.
The last time gas cost this much in our area was the last week in July, when it was in the midst of a multi-month decline from its peak back in mid-March.
A AAA report states that the main reason for this spike is “due to refinery issues ranging from planned maintenance to a fire.”
