Manitowoc Fire Chief Todd Blaser
2022 marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week in America.
Manitowoc Fire and Rescue Chief Todd Blaser tells Seehafer News the theme of safety education efforts during the week of October 9th through the 15th is Fire Won’t Wait, So Plan Your Escape.
“The big thing about fires, mere seconds can mean the difference between someone getting out safely, or a tragedy occurring,” he said. “Fire safety education is really important for adults and children. That is going to be the focus of this year’s Fire Prevention Week.”
Blaser added the Fire and Rescue Department “will spend the better part of October going to (local) schools.
“We are excited to get our Survive Alive trailer out there once again,” the fire chief said. “Getting out of the reaches of the pandemic, it’s out there should the Manitowoc Public School District be looking to utilize it.”
The chief says “not only do they concentrate on training kids how to escape safely from their bedroom in the event of a fire, but also pass along some kitchen safety tips and how to stay low and go if there’s smoke in your room, and the importance of smoke detectors.”
