Manitowoc County Ag Educator Angie Ulness
Farmers around Manitowoc County have begun their fall harvest, which means more tractors are occupying rural roads than normal.
Manitowoc County Ag Educator Angie Ulness told us that farming traditions run deep in Manitowoc County, and farm safety is a priority for farmers as well as the community that supports the farmers.
“This week, fitting so, is National Farm Safety and Health Week,” Unless explained. “Their theme this year is protecting agriculture’s future.”
Those who drive on rural roads this time of year need to keep one thing in mind, and that is farm traffic.
“You see a lot of choppers in the field, you see a lot of wagons being pulled by tractors,” Ulness said, “Farmers, mindfully try to be safe, have flashers, slow-moving vehicle signs, but if everyone would follow a little farther behind and be mindful of field turn-ins and such.”
Manitowoc County has some beautiful rural scenery, and Ulness is encouraging everyone to slow down and take it in both for your own enjoyment, but also for the safety of not only you and your family but for the safety of our local farmers.
