A 48-year-old St. Nazianz man was killed last evening (September 22nd) in a two-vehicle collision in the Manitowoc County Town of Liberty.
According to a news release this morning from Sheriff Dan Hartwig, the unidentified victim was driving an SUV westbound on County Highway C at about 6:30 p.m., when his vehicle struck an occupied parked semi-trailer unit.
The truck was parked partially in the lane of travel with its hazard lights activated and roadway warning devices in place.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two occupants of the semi-tanker unit, a 23-year-old Francis Creek man and his passenger, a 22-year-old female from Valders, were not injured.
It’s believed the brightness of the sun was a contributing factor to the crash.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is completing a crash reconstruction and no further information is being released as the collision remains under investigation.
Sheriff Hartwig is reminding motorists that the sun, especially during the time frame of dawn and dusk, may reduce visibility and to always drive with caution.
