It was a night to remember for Kolton Wong at Great American Ballpark. He blasted three balls over the outfield wall leading the Brewers to a much-needed 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
Wong hit a pair of two-run shots in the 2nd and 6th innings, and for good measure added a solo blast in the 8th.
On the mound, Brandon Woodruff has a solid start, only allowing 1 run and 3 hits through 6 innings while striking out 11 batters.
The Brewers did not gain any ground on the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card race, as they toppled the Braves 1-0, but now only 3 games separate the Brewers, Phillies, and the San Diego Padres, who fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4.
Those three teams are all looking to occupy the final two wild card slots.
The Brewers will try to make it three in a row tonight in game two of their four-game set in Cincinnati.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. at Great American Ballpark.
