The Howard man accused of shooting a woman who was attempting to aid his wife has been deemed competent to stand trial.
A judge issued that ruling in Brown County Court earlier this week, as Joseph Vandertie is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, and 1st Degree Reckless Injury, each with the use of a dangerous weapon.
The victim has stated that she had gone to Vandertie’s home after his wife called her and said he was repeatedly hitting her in the head.
The victim claimed Joseph appeared to be high on “something worse than weed” and could barely get off the couch.
When she went to go check on the wife, Vandertie reportedly shot the victim in the temple.
She did survive and has testified in court.
Vandertie is due back in court next week for his preliminary hearing.
