Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has submitted a proposed 2023 budget with tax increases and service cuts.
Johnson is proposing approximately $1.7 billion for his first budget as mayor of Wisconsin’s largest city.
Johnson said the combination of fees and taxes on a median-valued home will increase by about $48.60, as police and fire services are cut.
Johnson said the city is hamstrung because costs are climbing and revenue remains flat — suggesting the state’s shared revenue to the city needs to increase.
