Residents of Manitowoc County are invited this weekend to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
The event is at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA tomorrow morning (September 16th), starting at 8:30 a.m.
There’s an Opening Ceremony at 9:40 a.m. followed by the Walk at 10:00.
Those participating in the Walk honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony, a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease.
The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s or their personal reasons to end the disease, which afflicts more than 120,000 people in Wisconsin.
Another 198,000 people are serving as caregivers.
In Manitowoc County alone, over 1,900 individuals age 65 and older are living with dementia.
