The number of juvenile charges in Manitowoc skyrocketed last month.
According to the Police Department’s monthly report for August, there were 15 juvenile charges reported bringing the year-to-date total up to 134.
To put that into perspective, in all of 2020 there were 148, and last year that number fell to 136.
Meaning, that with 4 months left in the year, there have been nearly as many juvenile arrests this year as there were last year all year.
Also by this time last year, there were only 59 juvenile charges reported.
This trend is only being seen in the category of juvenile charges, as adult criminal charges are down.
In August this year, 174 adult charges were filed, compared to 206 last year, however, the year-to-date totals are near identical.
So far this year there have been 1,332 adult criminal charges reported, which is only 5 fewer than this time last year.
