The number of building permits issued in Manitowoc this year are down, but the price of the projects is up.
According to the Building Inspection Monthly Report for August, so far this year, 2,080 permits have been issued at an estimated value of nearly $93.6 million.
This is on pace to be 3,120 permits, which is more than 2020’s number of 2,957 permits issued, but less than last year’s number of permits, which ended up being 3,489.
That being said, the value of this year’s projects are much higher than the last two years.
Last year’s projects cost nearly $89.8 million, and in 2020, the projects cost only $52.5 million.
A big part of that is due to several big-ticket projects.
The FedEx Distribution Center on South 39th Street has a price tag of over $32.6 million, while the Kaysun addition in the industrial park is tagged at $4.5 million.
Also, the Manitowoc Tool and Manufacturing expansion on Vits Drive is costing an estimated $2.2 million, and an addition and the construction of a fuel canopy at the Menasha Avenue Kwik Trip was slated at $2 million.
