A 64-year-old man was taken into police custody over the weekend after attempting to flee from Manitowoc Police.
According to police reports, an officer was on patrol just before 2:00 Saturday morning (September 10th) when he noticed a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Western Avenue and South 26th Street.
When he approached the vehicle, he saw a man slumped over in the driver’s seat. When the officer tapped on the window, the suspect fled.
The officer returned to his squad car and took chase, eventually getting help from fellow city police as well as Sheriff’s deputies.
They were able to contain the vehicle in the parking lot of PDQ Car Wash on Custer Street and approached the vehicle with weapons drawn.
The man refused to exit his vehicle and shouted expletives at the police.
The officers were eventually able to pull the man from the vehicle, and placed him under arrest. Once the handcuffs were on, the man stopped resisting.
The man admitted to drinking and was charged with OWI as well as Fleeing or Eluding an Officer and Resisting an Officer.
