The Manitowoc Police Department wrapped up the summer season in Wisconsin with a focus on sober driving, as part of the Labor Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. It’s a nationwide enforcement and education campaign aiming to keep roads safe for all travelers.
Manitowoc Police Department officers made 6 OWI arrests during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign between August 17 and Labor Day.
While the focus of the initiative was to deter impaired driving, officers also issued citations and made arrests during traffic stops for the following:
- 3 speeding violations
- 19 operating after revocation or suspension violations
- 3 traffic sign or traffic light violations
- 1 seat belt violation
- 19 miscellaneous traffic citations
- 2 felony arrests
- 4 misdemeanor arrests
- 6 warrant arrests
Officers also issued 234 field warnings for traffic violations and had a total of 294 traffic contacts.
The goal was not simply to make arrests and issue citations. Each of these numbers is a potential life saved from the dangers of impaired driving. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign has ended for the season, but we will continue to work year-round to eliminate those risks and keep roads safe.
