A group accused of playing a key role in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol recently had their membership list leaked, and a Two Rivers City Council member was named.
Darla LeClair was one of six elected officials in the state to be on the list of Oath Keepers members.
In a statement released on the Two Rivers City Facebook page, LeClair admits that she did affiliate herself with the controversial group 13 years ago.
She said “This was during a time that I was extremely concerned with the direction our world was going,” and that her intention was to “not only do what I could to protect our country but also to focus on self-sufficiency in the event of a calamity.”
LeClair, who served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1987, said she joined the group without doing her research on them.
She went on to explain that after she realized the Oath Keeper’s philosophy was different from her own, “I quickly cut ties with them and never gave them another thought.”
LeClair said she is “upset and embarrassed that after so much time has passed, my name is still associated with them.”
