Firefighters in Appleton had a very busy Labor Day. It all started at around 1:00 p.m., as a smoke alarm sounded in the 3000 block of Chain Drive.
They arrived to find a moderate amount of smoke in the kitchen, but no flames.
An unconscious individual was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Then, about an hour later, crews were dispatched to a duplex in the 200 block of East Atlantic Street for another smoke alarm.
The caller said that they believed the fire was out but said that smoke was still coming through the attic vents.
A fire was found in the attic and was quickly extinguished.
No injuries were reported during the second incident, and the Red Cross is assisting the residents of that home.
