The Door County Sheriff’s Office has released some more details surrounding the fatal hit-and-run crash in Sevastopol last weekend.
We have learned that 71-year-old Marilyn VanDenBogart, who was a longtime teacher at Gibraltar Elementary School, was getting the mail outside of her home on Gordon Road when she was hit by 43-year-old Joshua Gann of Sturgeon Bay.
The results of a blood alcohol test showed that Gann’s BAC was 0.234%, or nearly three times the legal limit to drive.
Following the crash, during which Gann’s vehicle slammed into a nearby fence, Gann fled from and resisted sheriff’s deputies, at one point asking them to kill him.
He also reportedly told the deputies that he has drank roughly three-quarters of a bottle of NyQuil, along with an unspecified number of vodka drinks at a bar.
