Classes resume today in Appleton, but the Police Department is warning parents against a yearly tradition.
Many parents and guardians take pictures of their little scholar and post them on social media with a comment along the lines of “Little Johnny is off for his first day of school.”
While there is nothing wrong with that, the issue comes when the posts get too descriptive.
Parents are warned not to include their child’s age, height, weight, or favorite hobby, the school they will be attending, or the name of their teacher.
This is to help ensure the student’s safety, as you never know who will see that post, but it also helps keep the parent safe from scammers, who now have all that info as well.
A simple photo of your pride and joy, and what they wish to do when they are older is perfectly safe according to the Appleton Police Department.
