U.S. Senator Ron Johnson defends his comments on Social Security and government benefits, saying he never said he wanted to put programs like Medicare on the chopping block.
The Wisconsin Republican says no cuts are imminent.
He spoke to members of the American Legion in Milwaukee Tuesday.
Johnson had been quoted as saying he wants to make social safety programs go through the budget process like other federal spending.
Now, he says he’s being unfairly attacked.
