The 6th annual Cardboard City in Manitowoc to highlight the plight of homelessness is being planned for October.
Michael Etheridge, Director of the Haven of Manitowoc County Men’s Homeless Shelter, told Seehafer News there are two options: in-person on October 15th and 16th and virtual on October 8th.
“Participants can sleep in their backyards, build a cardboard city in the basements of their homes, go to a campground, or sleep in their car in their driveway,” he explained. “We ask that they chronicle that via video and put it on our Facebook page.”
Etheridge also spoke to us about the joint effort behind Cardboard City.
“We are not a standalone 501c non-profit, we wanted to collaborate,” he said. “Along with The Haven, Hope House, and Habitat for Humanity, we decided to get together and put on this event collaboratively.”
The director of the Haven added, “If I’m able, I would love to come by the homes and go live on Facebook, asking the hosts some questions ranging from why they’re participating, and what they know about homelessness.”
