The Port of Manitowoc is getting some additional funding from the state.
Yesterday, Governor Tony Evers and the state DOT announced that the Port will be getting $900,000 through the Harbor Assistance Program.
This grant will go toward the construction of new rail platform extensions, which will end up supporting the manufacturing, assembly, and shipping of cranes for the U.S. Navy.
In his news release, Evers recalled being in Manitowoc to celebrate the Big Blue Crane, noting that it “served as a major source of regional economic development.”
The governor went on to say that this latest investment into the Port of Manitowoc will keep “Wisconsin at the forefront as we assist in our nation’s important naval operations and grow our manufacturing success.”
Konecranes and Broadwind Heavy Fabrications are currently working on a follow-up to Big Blue.
