Democrats are stepping up the pressure to spend Wisconsin’s share of the opioid settlement.
State Senator Jon Erpenbach wants to spend $3 million to make Narcan available all over the state.
Narcan can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid-caused overdose. Wednesday at the Capitol Erpenbach called those opposing that idea “stupid.”
The Republican co-chairs of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee rejected a plan submitted by the Department of Health Services last week.
Senator Howard Marklein and state Representative Mark Born didn’t cite any specific objections to the DHS plan.
Wisconsin will get $120 million from the settlement spread out over the next 16 years.
