With the end of the year only four months away, municipalities and counties are beginning work on their 2023 budgets.
In Two Rivers, that process is underway, as City Manager Greg Buckley explains.
“Preparation of the budget is in the hands of our department heads right now,“ he said. “It will go in late September to begin review at the Personnel and Finance Committee of City Council.”
We asked Buckley what sort of things need to be addressed this time around, and he said, as many may have predicted, inflation.
Buckley said this is a problem, “especially in the water and wastewater utilities where chemical costs have increased greatly. We need to sit down and will be sitting down shortly for bargaining for new contracts with our police and fire unions. Each of those contracts are up at the end of this year.”
The major budget negotiations will take place in October and November, with a meeting scheduled for the end of November to finalize the budget.
The full City Council is expected to pass the budget in their first meeting in December.
