Your library card lets you pick from thousands of items in the Library, but did you know that your card also gives you access to even more eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines that you can read online? All you need is the “Libby” app. Libby has a vast collection of eBooks that you can borrow for free! Haven’t tried Libby yet? Well, Manitowoc Public Library is offering classes throughout the fall to teach you how to use Libby.
On Monday, September 12, at 10 AM, the Library will be hosting a demonstration of Libby and offer hands-on assistance with the app. Our staff will show you how to download Libby to your reading device and give you some helpful tips for navigating the service. You will be able to ask questions of our experienced staff. So, whether you’re new to Libby or are already using the app, this class will have something for you. At the end of the program, you’ll be ready to use Libby!

We will be offering this class once a month until the end of the year. No registration is required. Just bring your library card and your reading device (smart phone, tablet, Kindle, etc.). You’ll also need to know your passwords for your devices.
It’s possible that some of you may be using the Overdrive app for your eBooks. At the end of 2022, the Overdrive app is going to be discontinued. That means if you wish to continue enjoying online reading through MPL, you will need to switch to Libby. The Libby app was made by the same company as Overdrive, but has a more user-friendly setup and some neat new features.
Libby has new titles, older titles, magazines, audiobooks and a bunch more. Tired of paying the high cost of monthly magazine subscriptions? Libby has hundreds of magazines to pick from for free. Ever start an audiobook only to find that a disc is damaged? With Libby you never have to worry about scratched or missing discs (because there aren’t any). Once you download a book, it’s with you everywhere you go. Just bring your reading device and you’re ready to read. Everything on Libby (including the app itself) is free! Plus no overdue fees because Libby automatically returns your books for you.
Our demonstration of Libby will cover the basics of using the app. You’ll be shown how to search for books, borrow titles, and manage your reading. Our staff will guide you through Libby’s features and show how Libby is an improvement from the Overdrive app. And remember—with being phased out by the end of the year, Libby will be the only way to enjoy our digital collection.
Stop by Manitowoc Public Library on Monday, September 12, at 10 AM if you would like to learn more about Libby and get some hands-on help setting up the app. We love to see everyone in the Library, but we also want you to be able to take advantage of what’s available online. Bring your reading device (and your questions!) to Manitowoc Public Library on September and we’ll get you ready to enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines from the convenience of anywhere with Libby.
