The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is looking into beginning an I-41 expansion project in our area.
The proposed project would run between Wisconsin Avenue in Grand Chute to Scheuring Road in De Pere, which is a 23-mile stretch of the roadway which connects the Appleton area to the Green Bay area.
The project would cost upwards of $1 billion and would involve the full reconstruction of the pavement, and the addition of a lane of traffic in each direction.
This would make that stretch a 6 lane highway with a grass median separating the north and southbound traffic.
Residents have voiced concern regarding how long it will take to complete.
The DOT is looking to begin the project in 2024 and aims for it to be completed around 2030.
