The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers just couldn’t get the offense going last night as they fell to the West Division-leading Cedar Rapids Kernels 7-2.
The Rattlers were able to score a run in the first inning, but it took a series of mistakes by the home team to do it.
A passed ball on a called third strike, a dropped pop fly, and a second wild pitch gave the Rattlers the early lead, but the Kernels would score twice in the next two innings.
Ernesto Martinez would drive in a run to tie things up in the 4th, but the Kernels exploded for 3 runs in the bottom half to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Justin Jarvis had an off night on the mound for the Rattlers, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 in his 5 innings of work.
Fellow starter Orlando Rodriguez allowed only 3 hits and two runs while striking out 9 batters in his three and one-third innings of work.
The two teams will battle again tonight in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
First pitch at Perfect Game field is slatted for 6:35 p.m., with Carlos Rodriguez scheduled to start for the Rattlers.
