The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office has a new tool in its arsenal.
Thanks to a donation from an anonymous source, the Department now has what is called a Morphodent Mobile Fingerprint Reader.
According to a post on Facebook, “This device assists deputies in identifying individuals that may be providing false identities or refusing to provide identification during official law enforcement contacts.”
A situation where this device may have been used was recently reported by the Manitowoc Police Department.
The woman who caused a scene at a local Kwik Trip refused to give her name.
If an officer hadn’t recognized her from previous contacts, they would have had to wait to get her true identity until she was brought to the jail.
In fact, the Sheriff’s Department has already put it to good use, as two subjects with felony arrest warrants were identified in one evening.
The Department thanked the citizens, businesses, and organizations that continue to support them.
