The Wisconsin Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee has reallocated more than $21 million in bonding to cover the rising costs of building new youth corrections facilities.
State Representative Evan Goyke of Milwaukee calls Tuesday’s move at the Capitol “one significant step forward in the right direction.”
The new facilities in Milwaukee and Racine counties will replace the Lincoln Hills School for Boys and the Copper Lake School for Girls.
Goyke says Racine County officials are ready to break ground and Milwaukee County has a plan in place to renovate the Vel Phillips Justice Center in Wauwatosa.
