It’s official, the idea of allowing ATVs and UTVs on Two Rivers city streets is not going to happen.
A good number of residents of Two Rivers shared their opinions, but in the end, more people opposed the idea than supported it.
According to City Manager Greg Buckley, 24 people showed up in Council Chambers to voice their opinions, and they were split on the matter.
However, Buckley explained that “Emails directed to the City Clerk were running approximately 80 opposed to such an allowance, 7 in favor, and 7 in favor but with restrictions.”
Also, Pamela Stevens brought forth a petition opposing the idea, which got a lot of support.
Buckley revealed that “Ms. Stevens indicated she had about 150 signatures on the petition in opposition.”
So, after getting all the input from the public, the Council voted on an ordinance to have a two-year trial run of the program, which was defeated on a 6-3 vote.
The idea is not dead forever though, as it can be brought forth again, but ask Buckley told us, “I assume given the level of outreach to the community and soliciting public input that was made, it will be a little while at least.”
