City officials have been discussing it for a while, now it’s time for the public to speak up.
At tonight’s (August 15th) Two Rivers City Council meeting, time is being set aside for residents to answer the question “Should ATVs and UTVs be allowed on city streets?”
We spoke with City Manager Greg Buckley, who explained that the topic has been discussed several times by the City Council.
“Typically the consensus of the Council has been to NOT proceed with it, however, there is continued interest, and that resulted in an agreement by the council to hold this public input session,” he explained. “The public input coming in via email is running strongly against the proposal thus far.”
Residents should keep in mind that there will not be an ordinance ready to go.
Buckley said that there are a number of variables to take into consideration before an ordinance can be drafted.
He gave the examples of “Would it be for all city streets? Would it be for some city streets? Would it be implemented on a trial basis?”, all of which need to be discussed.
Those who wish to comment should be in the Council Chambers in City Hall by 6:00 p.m.
There was an informational sheet sent out with the utility bill, which can also be seen at Two-Rivers.org.
Those who can’t attend the public hearing but wish to provide input to the City Council should send an email to City Clerk, Jamie Jackson.
That address is jamjac@twi-rivers.org.
Buckley did say that generally speaking, the communities that allow ATV and UTV usage either are more rural or have immediate access to ATV trails, neither of which apply to the Cool City.
The City of Kiel is also working on an ordinance that would allow for ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts on City Streets.
The ordinance is expected to be brought before the City Council in the near future.
