The Milwaukee Common Council has given its approval to plans for the construction of a juvenile prison on the city’s northwest side.
The facility would take the place of the troubled Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake juvenile prisons in Irma.
The state of Wisconsin will build the $42 million facility at the previous home of an emissions testing center.
Council members voted 12-1 for the idea during a special meeting Friday.
The next step is to take the proposal before the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee.
