Scammers never take a break.
Not only do they keep pestering the public, but they also find new ways to try and take your money.
The Manitowoc Police Department is warning residents of a pair of scams that have been rising in popularity as of late.
The first of these scams is known as the “Publisher’s Clearing House Scam.”
The scammer calls a resident claiming to be from the Clearing House saying the target won a big prize.
However, they say that there is an $800 processing fee in order to claim the prize.
The second example is specific to people selling items on Facebook Market Place.
A “potential buyer” has been contacting sellers, saying they will pay through the phone app Zelle.
They then request the email attached to your Zelle account, which is not necessary to make payments.
They then send you an email saying they deposited the money into your account, but it will also say you need to pay in order to get that money, which they would reimburse you.
As a reminder, you should never have to pay in order to receive payment from either Publishers Clearing House, or from any only payment apps.
If you are the victim or target of a scam, you should report it to your local law enforcement agency immediately.
