A spokesperson for US Senator Ron Johnson says the Republican is calling for fiscal discipline and oversight.
Johnson suggested earlier this week that Social Security and Medicare ought to become programs for Congress to approve each fiscal year.
The Wisconsin Republican says the country’s problem is that 70 percent of the federal budget is mandatory and that’s why the country continues to “pile up debt.”
Democrats say Johnson just wants to make cuts to the programs.
