The Manitowoc Chiefs Youth Football Club is looking to expand its field area.
According to documents submitted to the Public Infrastructure Committee by the City’s Parks Planner, Brock Wetenkamp, the expansion would be completely contained to the Chiefs’ leased property.
He described the expansion as the “squaring off the grassy area west or the football field. Work would include removing trees and brush, leveling the existing ground, and moving a ditch that currently runs through the space.”
This work would add an additional half acre of space near the field, located on Clay Pit Road by the Manitowoc River.
Wetenkamp also stated that the area would be “transformed from largely unusable space to a grass turf area that can be utilized by the growing numbers of youth football players in our community.”
He also noted that the area is filled with “undesirable trees and invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle at the toe of the bluff.”
The photo below shows exactly where the work would be done in contrast to the actual playing surface.
