Juan Soto, Frankie Montas – fans and media love speculating about who might be traded and where he might go as the Major League Baseball trading deadline approaches later today (August 2nd).
One name that hadn’t been spoken was Brewers reliever, Josh Hader.
His trade to the San Diego Padres stunned the baseball world.
In return, Milwaukee gets Padres closer Taylor Rogers, right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet, and prospects Robert Gasser and Esteury Ruiz.
It’s likely Rogers won’t close for Milwaukee although his stats are very close to Hader’s.
The closer’s job will likely go to Devin Williams who hasn’t allowed a run in his last 30 games on the mound.
Following the surprising trade of the team’s closer on Monday, a three-game series in PNC Park gets underway.
Corbin Burnes starts for Milwaukee.
The Brewers have won seven of nine starts since the All-Star break.
They have outscored their opponents 57-to-42 while building a three-game lead in the National League Central Division.
