
Three area fire departments were summoned Saturday afternoon (July 29th) on a report of a large grass fire in the Manitowoc County Town of Schleswig.
Kiel Fire Department Public Information Officer Kyle Preissner said his personnel were dispatched to 22-414 County Road XX just before 2:00 p.m. for the fire in a ditch line.
Fire crews arrived and observed approximately a mile-long section of the ditch line ablaze.
Due to the size of the incident, the mutual aid box alarm was activated to bring additional resources to the scene.
Preissner said the fire was deemed under control and contained within twenty minutes of their arrival.
He also informed us the cause is still undetermined and flames came within approximately 50 feet of a residence.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians during the call.
Kiel Fire Department and Ambulance Service received assistance from Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center and the sheriff’s office, along with St. Nazianz and New Holstein Fire Departments.
