More improvements are coming to the River Point District in Manitowoc.
The most visual project in the section of the downtown located along the Manitowoc River is of course the River North Apartment building, which is still under construction.
However, Mayor Justin Nickels told us they are looking for bids on other projects.
He explained, “We are going to have kayak launches, we are going to have jet ski docks, we are going to have public docks for boats…along with a lot of public amenities that will lead up to that from the 10th Street bridge all the way up into that area along the river.”
Nickels also said they are looking into public sidewalks, park space, and potentially a community fire pit.
“Hopefully, if all goes well and the prices come in just nice, we should be able to start all that this year,” the mayor said. “The goal is to have it all ready for the next summer season.”
The City of Manitowoc purchased the plot of land formerly known as the CN Peninsula from Canadian National Railroad back in March of 2019, and in doing so essentially added more public land to the downtown area of the city.
